The Daily Deskhenge:
Today’s daily deskhenge ends the week (well, it ends the work week anyway) on a hopeful note. Things have been kind of tight–tight-fisted is the phrase that’s coming to mind, and maybe there’s been a lion wandering around in your sheepfold. Maybe you’ve felt the influence of something outside of you weighing on you, pushing you around. Perhaps someone else’s boundaries are getting all up in your face, or somebody’s inability to set and maintain boundaries. Or maybe there have been instances of a harsh and painful reality slipping out, where before there was only compassion and sensitivity. Are you pretending to be something you’re not? Have you been acting in a way that’s contrary to your ethics? Or have you been moving around in a world that seems somehow crazy and off-balance? You’re not alone. This energy seems to have been present for awhile–maybe it’s the Mercury Retrograde thing, maybe it’s whatever is bringing hurricanes to Times Square and earthquakes to Washington, D.C.; maybe it’s the energy of people having to police themselves as state and municipal budgets get slashed and local law enforcement gets laid off. Things don’t look good, and they’re not looking any better. Maybe we’re only mere months away from the inevitable zombie apocolypse after all.
See that Lion up there in the center card? He’s disguised himself as a sheep so he can make his way around freely among the other sheep, and none of them are the wiser. But none of them are the wiser not through any cleverness on the Lion’s part; no, they’re clueless because they choose to remain clueless. Those sheep all have eyes, and they all have noses. They have access to sensory data that would tell them exactly what’s going on if they only used their senses. But they’re choosing not to, for whatever reason makes the most sense to them–maybe there’s a connection between the sheep in the “Conditioning” card (in the center) and the “Morality” card (on the left). Morality provides a certain amount of protection, but not from a force of nature like a Lion. And it’s not going to be long before that Lion strikes.
Maybe whatever we’re going through now, this walking with the Lion, is prepping us for a new way of understanding and communicating going forward. Maybe we need to experience this upheaval so that we know how to maneuver through it. Keep your wits about you, maybe take some notes, and most of all, hold yourself and others in a spirit of compassion right now. We’re all in the same boat. More belligerence would certainly be understandable, but it’s absolutely not going to help. What will help right now is connecting solidly with your own sense of what’s true, and then reconciling that with what you see around you and then trusting your own judgment enough to think for yourself as you make decisions for your future.
