The Daily Deskhenge:
They say that eclipses are the perfect time for new beginnings, for getting rid of the old and making way for the new. Well, now is a perfect time for that. There is a full lunar eclipse tomorrow, so today is absolutely the right time to make a mental sort-through of all the stuff you want to get rid of. What have you been carrying around forever that is not serving you? I usually read the 6 of Cups (on the left, above) as nostalgia for childhood, so look back. Are you hanging onto resentments that are ancient and no longer have anything to do with anything? When I was in grade school, I had a nemesis. This girl was a perfectly normal, bright, engaging 12-year-old, but for some reason, she was mean to me once or twice, so I developed a story about how much she hated me. It served me at the time, and helped me make sense of a challenging and constantly changing world to be able to place people in well-defined roles like “Good Guy,” “Bad Guy,” “Mean Girl,” or “Nice Boy.” And this one girl made it into my “Nemesis” pile. But honestly, how useful is that to me now? She is a grown woman today with children of her own, we’re friends on Facebook, and honestly I can’t remember how or why she was “mean” to me in the first place all those years ago. So I believe this story I have that I’ve been carrying around for 34 years (yeah, I just did the math) is a perfect candidate for transmutation with the coming eclipse. I’ll offer up my old relationship with a prayer for forgiveness (and offering forgiveness for whatever the so-called “mean-ness” was), and ask that a new relationship be begun fresh so that we can start over. And then perhaps this woman and I can begin to get to know each other as honest-to-God people, free of all our childhood bullshit. I’m not saying we’ll be best friends: she may have a good reason for still disliking me, or maybe I won’t like her. But at least I’ll know I won’t be making that decision based on how I felt when I was a kid who was up to her ears in feelings she had no idea how to deal with.
What has been sitting on your plate for the last few decades that you can release in the next 24-48 hours? Take a review of your life (ask the Archangel Jeremiel if you need help [he’s the guy on the right in the big red dress, and his name means “Mercy of God,” so he’s not going to be judgy]), and see what’s ripe and ready for the Universal Recycling Bin.
