The Daily Deskhenge:
Today your DD Oracle discovered, to her horror, that she had left all her Deskhenge paraphernalia at home. Yikes! So at first I wasn’t going to do a Daily Deskhenge today, but then I had a thought: what if the tools of divination are all around us all the time? What if I *had* to make some kind of presentation today, even without my cards and crystals? So I put together a little altar on my desk the way I always do, using whatever moves me and leaving behind what does not, and seeing in the end what I come up with. And voila! Let’s see what we have:
- Saline nasal spray
- Branch from a flowering plum tree
- Dried and roasted edamame
- Hand sanitizer
- Pink highlighter
- Sacagawea dollar
- Jolly Buddha
- Lip balm with “shimmer”
- Note to myself about loving myself.
All of these things mean something to me today–well, actually, the Buddha, plum tree branch, Sacagawea dollar, and note to myself mean something to me every day, and I guess that’s why I have them here. But the other things? And how do they all fit?
The overarching message I read in this is to find the sacred in every situation, no matter how mundane or obvious or “boring.” I’m also noticing that each of these things is a helper item of some kind: food, money, cleanser, decongestant, a loving word, a tool for my job. There is sanctity there, even in the most mundane objects: we don’t have to associate holiness with what other people tell us is “holy.” We can create our own holiness with the simplest things that have meaning for us. My Daily Deskhenge today tells me about support, that I have the tools I need to make it successfully through the day, that I’m loved and lucky and blessed. Finding the blessings inherent in hand sanitizer is a talent, indeed. 😉
What are the blessings around you, the magical helper tools, that perhaps you’re overlooking?
